BIOGRAPHY
Chris Gulbin, a 20 year veteran of the FDNY, was born and raised on Staten Island, N.Y. His career was spent at firehouses in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Staten Island all the while working part time as a Registered Nurse in the Operating Room at Staten Island University Hospital. Gulbin continues to work as an RN since retiring as a Lieutenant from the FDNY in 2004. He was awarded the Staten Island University Hospital President's Award in 2006, Operating Room Nurse of the Year in 2008, and the North Shore/LIJ Health System's Zuckerberg Family Award for Nursing Service Excellence in 2009. Having no training in art, Gulbin enrolled in a beginners watercolor class at the Art Lab in 1998. The Art Lab is a non-profit art school on the grounds of Snug Harbor Cultural Center on Staten Island. He continues to study with his mentor Sal Busacca and credits him, The Art Lab, and his classmates for their sharing of knowledge, inspiration, and encouragement.
